Your first steps into the world of Mystic

Connecting to Mystic

The easiest way to play Mystic MUD is through our web client:

  1. Navigate to mysticmud.com/game
  2. The client will automatically connect to the server
  3. You'll see a welcome message and login prompt
Web Client Tips

Use the toolbar at the top to change color themes, adjust font size, and access quick commands. On mobile devices, the interface is touch-optimized for easy play.

Creating Your Character

When you first connect, you'll be prompted to create a new character or log in with an existing one.

Step 1: Choose a Name

Pick a name for your character. Names should be:

  • Fantasy-appropriate (no modern references)
  • Unique (not already taken)
  • Appropriate for a shared gaming environment

Step 2: Set a Password

Choose a secure password for your character. You'll need this to log in later.

Step 3: Select Your Race

Each race has unique strengths and weaknesses. Common races include:

  • Human - Balanced stats, versatile
  • Elf - High intelligence and dexterity, good for magic users
  • Dwarf - Strong constitution, excellent warriors
  • Halfling - High dexterity, good thieves

Step 4: Choose Your Class

Your class determines your abilities and playstyle:

  • Fighter - Master of combat, high health and damage
  • Mage - Powerful spells, lower health
  • Cleric - Healing magic, decent combat
  • Thief - Stealth and backstab abilities
Recommendation for New Players

If you're new to MUDs, consider starting as a Human Fighter. This combination is forgiving and lets you learn the game mechanics without worrying about complex spell systems.

Your First Commands

Once you've created your character, you'll appear in the starting area. Here are essential commands:

look or l See your surroundings and available exits
north, south, east, west Move in a direction (can abbreviate: n, s, e, w)
inventory or i See what you're carrying
score or sc View your character stats
help Access the in-game help system
who See who else is playing

Exploring the World

Mystic MUD has over 20,000 rooms to explore. Here's how to navigate:

Reading Room Descriptions

When you enter a room or type look, you'll see:

  • The room name
  • A description of the area
  • Visible exits (directions you can go)
  • Items on the ground
  • Other players or creatures present

Movement

Most movement uses cardinal directions:

north (n)    south (s)    east (e)    west (w)
northeast (ne)    northwest (nw)    southeast (se)    southwest (sw)
up (u)    down (d)    enter    leave
Be Careful!

Some areas are dangerous for new players. Stay near the starting city until you've gained some levels and equipment. If you see a warning about a dangerous area, heed it!

Combat Basics

Combat in Mystic is automatic once initiated. To start a fight:

kill <target>

For example: kill rat or kill goblin

During Combat

  • Combat rounds happen automatically
  • Watch your health points (HP)
  • Type flee to attempt escape if things go badly
  • Use wimpy to auto-flee at low health

After Combat

  • Defeated enemies may drop items or gold
  • Type get all to pick up items
  • Rest to recover health if needed

Communication

Mystic is a social game! Here's how to communicate:

Command Description
say <message> Talk to players in the same room
gossip <message> Talk to all players online
newbie <message> Channel for new player questions
tell <player> <message> Private message to a specific player
emote <action> Express an action (e.g., "emote waves" shows "Player waves")
Getting Help from Players

Don't be shy about asking questions on the newbie channel. Mystic's community is friendly and happy to help new adventurers!
