Manual · new player guide

First steps.

Your first steps into the world of Mystic — connecting, choosing a name and a class, and the handful of commands you need before your first fight.

Connecting

The easiest way to play Mystic MUD is through the web client:

  1. Navigate to mysticmud.com/game.
  2. The client will automatically connect to the server.
  3. You'll see a welcome message and login prompt.

Creating your character

When you first connect, you'll be prompted to create a new character or log in with an existing one.

1 · Choose a name

Pick a name for your character. Names should be:

  • Fantasy-appropriate (no modern references)
  • Unique (not already taken)
  • Appropriate for a shared gaming environment

2 · Set a password

Choose a secure password for your character. You'll need this to log in later.

3 · Pick stats

You'll spend 350 points across six core attributes — Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. Each attribute can range from 30 to 90.

Type pick stats to choose a template, adjust the numbers if you like, then type keep to finalize.

See character statistics for what each attribute does.

4 · Pick a fantasy race

Each race has unique strengths and weaknesses:

Human
The baseline race; well-rounded with no penalties or bonuses, capable of excelling in any class.
Elf
Forest-dwelling with pointy ears; increased agility and affinity for magic, but lower strength.
Half-Elf
Offspring of human and elf; slightly larger than elves, with some of the elven magic talent.
Dwarf
Sturdy mountain folk; excellent miners, surprisingly powerful for their small stature, but lacking in appearance.
Gnome
Small with pointy ears; clever and nimble, making up in wits what they lack in brawn.
Halfling
The smallest race; very agile, but lacking in strength and hardiness.
Half-Orc
Imposing but ill-regarded; strong and hardy, with penalties to charisma and intelligence.
Selkie
A rare sea-dwelling race; equally at home in water and on land, immune to holds, with excellent physical traits. Cannot be Paladins or Death Knights.

Your first commands

Once you've created your character, you'll appear in the starting area. Here are the essential commands:

look · l
See your surroundings and available exits.
n · s · e · w
Move in a direction (full names also work: north, south, east, west).
inventory · i
See what you're carrying.
score · . · ..
Full character sheet (score) or a quick info line (. or ..).
help

who
See who else is playing.

Exploring the world

Mystic MUD has over 20,000 rooms to explore.

Reading room descriptions

When you enter a room or type look, you'll see:

  • The room name
  • A description of the area
  • Visible exits (directions you can go)
  • Items on the ground
  • Other players or creatures present

Movement

Most movement uses cardinal directions:

north (n) · south (s) · east (e) · west (w)
northeast (ne) · northwest (nw) · southeast (se) · southwest (sw)
up (u) · down (d) · enter · leave

Combat basics

Combat is automatic once initiated. To start a fight:

kill <target>

For example: kill rat or kill goblin.

During combat

  • Combat rounds happen automatically.
  • Watch your hit points (HP).
  • Set a wimpy threshold to auto-flee when your HP drops below it — Mystic doesn't have a manual flee command.

After combat

  • Defeated enemies may drop items or gold.
  • Type get all from corpse to loot — or get all for everything on the ground.

Mystic is a social game.
